Maplesill keeps the personal information it asks for to a sensible minimum: enough to get a parcel of tea towels to your door and look after you if anything needs fixing. Here is what that involves, who helps us, and the choices you have.
In short:
- We collect what we need to take your order, deliver it and support you.
- We never sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- A small number of trusted services help us run the shop, including Shopify, our payment processor, shipping carriers and the Meta pixel.
- You can opt out of ad personalisation at any time on Your Privacy Choices.

The information we collect
What you give us
- Order details: your name, email address, shipping and billing addresses, and the items you choose.
- Messages: anything you write when you email us, such as a question about a design or a return request.
- Newsletter sign-ups: your email address, if you choose to hear about new towels and offers.
- Account details: login information, if you decide to create an account.
What is gathered automatically
When you visit, your browser shares some technical information, such as device and browser type, approximate location based on IP address, the pages you look at and how you arrived. Cookies and similar tools collect this so the cart remembers your picks, the site stays secure and we can see which designs people love.
Card details
Your payment details go straight to our payment processor through Shopify's secure checkout. Maplesill never sees or stores your full card number.
How we use it
- To process, pack and ship your order, and to send order and tracking emails.
- To answer your emails and handle returns, refunds and exchanges.
- To prevent fraud and keep the shop secure.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it.
- To send marketing emails, only if you have agreed; every one has an unsubscribe link.
- To show relevant Maplesill ads on Facebook and Instagram, which you can switch off (see below).
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We share information only with providers we need to run the shop, and only as much as each task requires:

Cookies and the Meta pixel
Essential cookies keep the cart and checkout working. Analytics cookies help us see what is popular. The Meta pixel is a small piece of code that tells Meta when someone views a page, adds a towel to the cart or completes a purchase, so we can measure our ads and show them to people likely to enjoy them. You can limit this on Your Privacy Choices, through your browser settings, or in your Facebook and Instagram ad preferences.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, usually several years. Email conversations are kept while they are useful for looking after you. Marketing data is deleted when you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states, the UK and the EU, you may have the right to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, or object to certain uses such as targeted advertising. Email info@maplesill.com to make a request. We will confirm your identity before acting and respond within the time the law allows. We will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
Keeping it safe
Our site runs over an encrypted connection, checkout is handled by Shopify's PCI-compliant systems, and access to order information is limited to people who need it. No system is ever perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you share.
International transfers
Our company is based in Hong Kong and our providers operate in several countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Children
Our shop is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16; if you believe a child has given us details, please email us and we will delete them.
